How To Use Strap On Dildos

People use strap ons for various reasons, whether you're a chastity boy (like me) or just looking to switch things up with their partners. With a strap on dildo anyone can become a good top. I will assume that if you've found your way to this blog you're looking to navigate the basics of how to use a strap on dildo properly, and fortunately for you, at Twisted Beast we know a thing or two about strap on dildos.

The Different Types Of Strap On Dildos

One of the most important steps in using a strap on dildo is knowing what strap works for you, remember it's going to be on you! So get comfortable. While there are many styles available, most strap on dildos are designed to work with one of three common harness types:

• Adjustable/o-ring harnesses - As described, a strap on harness you can adjust, it's more beginner friendly.

• Underwear-style harnesses - A harness you'd find with attachments often in the shape of underwear.

• Vac-U-Lock - These harnesses are more compatible with suction cups, and the ones we personally recommend as you can change the dildos you are using with ease. You can do this by taking them off the suction cup and replacing it with another dildo. This also means they are compatible with most of our range of fantasy dildos as they have holes for suction cups.

Picking out a strap-on can be very daunting for the first time, so when you're browsing through which to buy i’d suggest considering two things:

• Make sure you buy a harness that isn't too loose, if it's adjustable that's great! If it can't, make sure you get your measurements right. 

• Pick a toy that's the right size for your partner and for your strap on. If you're like me and well versed with larger toys, remember that not everyone is as lucky to be such a good hole. Toys that are too big for your partner and your strap are such a boner killer (If you pardon the pun).

Strap On Dildos with Suction Cups (Vac-U-Lock) 

Suction cups are pretty versatile. While most sluts will use them up against a shower wall, they can be used for Vac-U-Loc strap on harnesses too.

Suction cups offer greater stability when using your strap-on dildo, compared to other methods. It locks your toy into place and means when you're actually fucking, the toy won't slip out. To get the best results, make sure your suction cup matches the size of the dildo you are using. Though it may look comical to have a large toy on a small suction cup, it can make your strap on dildo quite dangerous. Your hole is a sensitive area and you don't want a strap on dildo slipping out.

How To Put Your Dildo On The Suction Cup 

So, now you've picked up your Vac-U-Loc strap on. Now it's the fun part - putting your dildo on the suction cup.

Align your Dildo - Most vac-u-loc strap ons will have an insert where you can put your suction cup attachment in. Find that first and then secure your suction cup. Once your suction cup is secure this is when you should align your dildo and secure it on the cup.

Secure the base - When you are securing your dildo onto the strap on, make sure you press down until the air pushes out of the dildo. This will create a vacuum between your suction cup and your dildo, which will make your strap on dildo much more stable.

The more stable your setup the more control you'll have. When your dildo is securely attached, you'll find it easier to adjust to its weight, movement, and positioning. You want to find which angles and motions feel most natural and comfortable - you're learning a new way of having sex, we've all got to start somewhere!

One final thing to note, though, it's easier to prioritize your partner's comfort over your own. Remember that your comfort matters too, if you're comfortable with your strap on dildo, you're gonna be a better top for the hole you're topping.

Top Tip : Warm Up Your Suction Cup 

Hear me out here. After doing our own research we found a very particular way of increasing control of suction cups. We found that running your suction cup under hot (not boiling) water before securing it to your dildo, will help soften the silicone rim and make it easier to conform to your suction cup. We did also try it with cold water to see if it had the same effect but cooling silicone doesn't allow for the same conforming that the hot water did. The heat of the water is important for this as boiling water can degrade silicone toys. Using Your Strap On Dildo

Using a strap on is mostly the same as just topping (as you may notice). So, with that in mind a lot of similar advice does apply. If you're using your strap on dildo as a top there are four main points that I found really helped me: 

Read your bottom’s body language 

When you're using your strap on, it will become apparent that you cannot actually feel what your partner's hole is like, and by extension you become reliant on your partner's response to see what works. Not everyone responds the same if something hurts/doesn't work. So it’s vital you are checking in more than regular.

Don't set expectations 

If your bottom (like mine) is inexperienced with taking toys, start small. It may be a goal to take bigger toys, but the best advice I could give is to prioritize your comfort and the comfort of your bottom this way. That also being said, find out what kind of toys work for 

you/your partner. We’d recommend our silicone toys as they provide better comfort (and most are compatible with vac-u-lock strap ons) but not all holes are the same!

Get in that headspace 

Taking a strap on dildo can often be a daunting thing. Anything you can do to make your partner get into a good headspace will go a long way. Sometimes it's harder to get into a good headspace if you are just taking a toy (even a strap on dildo), so if your partner is feeling anxious or unsure, their body will tighten up. Things that you could do to help get them in a good headspace are changes to lighting, dark/red hues or putting on some porn can really help your partner feel at ease, ultimately making it a better time for you both.

Lube lube and more lube! 

If your walls aren't dripping with lube it's not enough! For the best experience for your partner, make sure to use lots of lube. Taking a dildo anally can be an intense experience so reading your partners’ body language will help. In most cases, they may just need top up lube and unlike regular sex, it's harder to realise what the right amount of lube is. As the lube is not on your skin directly, make sure you're using enough for an enjoyable experience.
